how to build a Drive Shaft...?

Postby Geoffs89Pathy » Wed Oct 14, 2009 12:59 pm

i know i feel a little stupid cause i dont even know how to take apart a u joint but i need to know how to put together the shaft i have and shorten it so i can use it and have 4wd again.
i have the DS that went to the axle which is a 82 waggy. it is about 6-8 inches too long
which side (im guessing the long side) do i shorten it. and how do i get the new flange i still have to buy on the end of it to make it work? 1310 cv joint. i have barrys DS adapter already and the DS all i need is the flange and some one to show me how to actually do it???? i need pics to understand fully too.

Disassemble the CV, then cut at the CV end. Shorten then reweld. Ill add some dimensions to my pathy one tomorrow. Ill update that page.

Worse case you can ship me your shaft and Ill make you one.

OK I tried to add some more detail to the driveshaft page.

This is the overall length cap center to cap center on the first U joints.

Here is the common size of the CV

Basically make the long side 11" weld to weld. If your short side is 5" weld to weld.

you know why i was really confused was because i was thinking the cv side attached to the axle instead of the tcase because it was the only way i could se how to attach it because i am missing the little strapps for the u joint that bolts to the yoke on the axle and i didnt know that. so i need those too. where do i get those?

thanks. napa had it. 7.63$ took apart the old u joints last night. they seem to be good but i alreafy bought new one the duralast golds with white lithium grease. they are non greasable.

so al i have to do is cut the weld pound it off and shorten it? if the total length from tcase is x then how long does the drive shaft need to be or how much do i need to cut off?

Don't forget the Nissan Nut DS adapter that goes to the X-case.
