Front axle wrap/ Drive shaft

Postby E4x4Eric » Sun Sep 27, 2009 6:18 pm

Went wheeling with the new crawler gears today and the front DS pulled apart at full droop with power applied :what: . What do yall think I need to do to fix this :what: Could it be the soft springs set up causing the springs to wrap :what: or do I need to make the front yoke a bit longer. I could used a limiting straps but I really don't want to do that. Maybe I need a stiffer sring added to the packs to keep the axle from twisting and causing the thang to come apart...

Do you have the long base spring perches? They help reduce axle wrap.

No you dont have them. Cuong he has my old perchs. They make super long perchs to prevent wrap.

you may just need a longer slip shaft. or longer shaft. At full compression put a mark on the spline and see if you can lengthen the shaft.

Worse case if you need more slip Ill trade you my shaft. I dont need a long slip shaft anymore. Leaf setups up front force the driveshaft to lengthen as the suspension droops. With links they dont.

We could test fit my shaft on your truck.

:agree I could probably do it when I go up there for the Bridgeport grand opening. I am going up there that Friday and stay at my son's place that night. And Just for a good peace of mind, i am going to add another chebby leaf to the pack, plus that 'll make it more road friendly. Thanks Barry,

I checked the wheel travel and I've got plenty, so I am leaning toward using limit straps and replacing one of the YJ leaf to a Chebby leaf :sawzall Who is using limit straps on their rig, because I need some ideas. I've never done one bafore

I have one a pair on my pathy. There $40 at 4wp. I run it from shock tower to axle. I once had an issue with coils popping out.

I am cutting up some tabs right now, but the plan is to weld them to the axle ends before the knuckles and the others to the frame somewhere then some chain links. I thinkl this is going to work out fine.

This is confusing me :what: I checked it today with the axle at full drop again and the DS pulled out. It didn't do this before. I took a few pics for ref. I think it'll work if I get a longer slip yoke. It looks like it's about an inch and a quarter short now.
