Alternator upgrade

Postby Geoffs89Pathy » Wed Mar 31, 2010 2:13 am

wanting to do an alternator upgrade while building the VG33 for my pathy.
not quite like the vid that someone posted a while back of the 10 HO alt powering his portable radio station lol but........

i am trying to figure out what the best options are for all my accessories when i do my engine swap.

option 1.
of course is buy the stock alt for the engine (120 dollars at AZ) *80 amps*. LAME. although it would still be considered an upgrade... lol :bad

option 2.
get any specialized or HO alternator and make it work with custom bracketry, and wiring, and belt.

Please post up possible alternators or places to get HO alts
i am not limited to nissan parts on this modification. just something that will work or can be modifidied to work

make a list include the amps, and what it came off of and the type of pulley it has if known.
1. 145 amp quest alt.
2.
3.
4.
5.

THANKYOU!!!

why is the external regulated alternator so much better and more expensive than the Mean Green?

https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/mean-g ... p-773.html

i would tend to think the more amps is better but then why is the other one 200 dollars more???

160 amp externally regulated alternator comes with plug-in connectors, bolt up mounts and pulley. External regulator be mounted higher up so as to avoid engine heat or provide protection from water crossing. External regulator keeps it from running as hot as stock alternator. For those who have extremely heavy electrical loads.

does any one have the mean green alternator made for the VG30 or the Vg33?

it is 180 amp alt, and it completely boltss in... and plugs in.

but its $350...

either that or buy an auto zone lifetime 2004+ quest alternator (145 amp output) and modify it to work on my VG33i. it is cheaper plus i will have a limited life time warranty but the only ting is i have to do some fabbing but once its done i dont have to do it again. WE will see how the dice roll. also im not sure if the pulley is the same as my 5 ribbed belt crank pulley. ... if it is i am even more interested in doing this setup. if its not an still wanted to do this setup i woul have to find a pulley i could bolt to the alternator that WOULD match my crank pulley. ok thank you for any answers that you may have as i ask alot of questions at once.
