85 Toyota

Postby Jason » Sat Dec 19, 2009 9:34 pm

Hey guys I'll start my build thread here since I'll be wheeling with most of yall anyways and I'll just pretend its a Nissan :drink

This baby started who knows where but I bought it for $900 and it didn't run, its missing its gas tank, and hopefully once I get it running most everything else will be ok..

I started messing with the engine and it cranks over but when i spray starter fluid in the intake it doesnt sound like its catching at all. I need to hook up a fuel tank though and thankfully I bought a beer keg/fuel cell contraption for $5 haha, ill post pics soon. I plan on using an E2000 external fuel pump and mount the "keg tank" in the bed.

Well I can get an E2000 fuel pump for $85 from autozone or $50 on ebay

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalo ... tex+Master

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-FUEL ... 5ad5a84804

what do yall think?

have you tried XL Parts or NAPA? they're usually cheaper than autozone. if not, then just get it from ebay. that's $35 you'll save and that seller has good reviews for "fast shipping."

of course, that's a few days wait, how impatient are you? better question: how tight is your budget and how badly do you want to wheel it at barnwell? lol

well impatient level is nill since I leave on a week long cruise tomorrow :dance haha, so whatever i order will be here by the time i get back.. my budgets tight but i dont mind the difference if i can have the option of returning one i buy locally.

I dont have an XL parts account so i cant check their prices, and on napa it was a few bucks more. Ill probably just wait till i get back to mess with it

i got it running but i have to pull the throttle all the way and the distributer is all the way to the left. I used a timing light and the mark was to the right of TDC 0 so i think it is firing after top dead center

rotate your plug wires the opposite direction on your distributor cap. it should free up some distributor adjustment, since you're already maxxed out and still firing after TDC.

indeed, maybe you just misaligned your plug wires when you installed them on cap?

i took the distributor all the way out and installed it right as the FSM says.. i guess the previous owner just jammed it in without aligning any of the gears. So now ITS ALIVE!!! im going to autozone now to get fluids because i only have water in the radiator and the oil is pure sludge,, then ill check the diffs and hopefully i can drive it around the yard by this afternoon :shades I still havent bought a trailer yet though so I cant take it to the Bachelor Run

you can't rent a uhaul or borrow one?

anyway, it's probably better to do a shakedown around town first, before rushing it and bringing it across the state to find out X is broken, Y needs to be replaced, and Z is missing.

and that paint job is sorta growing on me. :shades
