Abrasive blast cabinet

Postby NissanNut » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:08 pm

I picked up a HF blast cabinet with my bday money.

I also picked up some walnut shells. I need to clean all the vg3x alloy pieces.

Anyone ever use one before? Any tips? I guess if the walnut shells dont work well. Ill try the glass bead stuff.

I found one of those 20% coupons for it.

I never used one. When I was a younger, I thought my uncle playing with something radioactive in it.

Only tip I can suggest is make sure housing is sealed good and the filter element works otherwise you'll be covered in dust :popcorn

I've used the sand blaster one, but you have to be c arefull using it. it will take a lot more than rust if you stay on it too long.

I am going to try fine walnut shells. Mostly on aluminum for now. After reading the directions and opening the box. The alunimum oxide sounds toxic.

Its really nicely made. :shades Its nicer than the beat up ones in the store. Cant wait to try it. intake manifolds and heads are so hard to clean.

Well the walnut shells work ok. But not aggressive enough to really clean the heads. So I switched to glass bead. Wow it is so much better. The gun clogs occasionally so I ordered this "made in USA" upgrade kit.

Here is the cabinet.

I had to add a light. $18 at home depot.

But the new "made in usa" gun is SO MUCH BETTER. It like the difference between a bb gun and a shot gun. I cant believe the difference.

Is the box big enought to blast a 15x8 rim?

No. But I plan to to expand mine a little. Its tight doing a vg 3cylinder head. Cant imagine anything bigger in there. I want to put a bay window out the back to give me more room. MAybe 3-6". Just weld up a 16g box and attach to rear of cabinet.

Last night I reblasted one head and the intake and some other parts. Its so much faster now. I think I will go back to walnut shells again. Worried about all the glass bead in my engine.
