The Jeep won't start

Postby mudman » Fri Apr 02, 2010 7:41 am

I was working under it yesterday on some basic suspension maintenance on the flex joints of my control arms. I was using the winch to adjust the axles no problem.

Earlier in the day it passed inspection.

OK I go to test drive it, it starts and runs about 20 seconds and then stalls. From that point I can not get it to start. I did not touch anything under the hood. I try the lights, turn signals, radio all seems normal.

I will crank great (1 month old Red top) I smell gas, but will not fire. I don't know where to start. There is no check engine light on.

Either fuel or spark:

fuel:
Make sure you fuel pump works. Either disconnect a fuel line in the engine area or near the filter. And hit the key. Just for a second.

spark
use a noid light on the injectors? I think you have TBI, look down the intake and see if you smell gas.
or use a spark tester.

Try the obdII. Your ecu may measure fuel pressure. Nissans dont but some brands do.

Ah, sounds like no spark. Do you have a spark plug tester? Or a spare coil?

I picked up a spark tester, but it is a two person job.

I ordered a coil and will pick it up latter today.
